The D-1 Greyhounds Girls Basketball Club is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization based out of Huntington, WV and is affiliated with the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU). The organization was established in 2008 by Kyle Sheffield whose mission was to provide a nurturing environment to help our community youth develop character, enhance their leadership skills, and showcase their basketball talents. The D-1 Greyhounds have a strong history of success, both on and off the court. In addition to claiming tournament championships, the organization is most proud of how its girls have performed off the court. Our girls represent communities all over Tri-State Area. They are active leaders in the classrooms and in their respective communities. They also recognize that high academic performance, extraordinary citizenship, and dedicated community service are key factors in determining their basketball altitude. "Achieving Excellence On and Off the Court" is not just a catch phrase, but is the true focus and mission of the D-1 Greyhounds Girls Basketball Club.
Our philosophy is expressed through our undeniable C.H.A.R.M:
• Compete Hard
• Have Fun
• Academics First
• Respect All
• Mental Toughness
Compete Hard – Don't settle for average or good but aspire to be great which begins and ends with your work ethic. "Hard work beats talent, when talent doesn't work hard".
Have Fun – Basketball is a game and should be fun. If you are not having fun, then you should try something else.
Academics First – This has to be your competitive advantage!!! Making the grade is much more important than making the shot.
Respect All – Always be respectful to your parents, coaches, teachers, opponents, and peers. "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you".
Mental Toughness – The choices we make on and off the court will determine our success or failure relative to both. On the court, can we stay mentally focused when the pressure is on and things are not going our way. Off the court, can we overcome the negative peer pressures and do the right thing.
