17 May 2016 by Bryan Courts

Game 1 of the Marriott Resort Slam tipped off Saturday at 12:30 against the Queen City Ballers. Game starts off with a quick 2-2 score. Greyhounds do their typical press defense and soon the score is 6-2. Greyhounds don’t let up and halftime score is 20-6. Second half looks very much the same with lots of Greyhound steals and during a 1-minute span about halfway through the half Lady hounds take 3 quick steal followed by 6 quick points! Greyhounds cruise to a 42-6 victory. Next game will be at 2:50 against Carolina Elite.

Game 2 tips off at 2:50 against Carolina Elite. These girls are a little bigger than us and they can handle the ball! We play our typical tight defense, but this team came to play. Carolina Elite made their easy baskets and with number 23 draining 5 3-pointers, Elite goes in at half with at 29-13 lead. Elite cooled off a touch in the second half, but kept a comfortable lead throughout. Greyhounds go down 37-22. Tough loss from a great team.

Game 3 tips off Sunday at 12:50 against Lady Team Wall. This team is much bigger than us and they move very well. Score goes back and forth all half and Lady Hounds go in at half with a 15-11 lead. Greyhounds come out strong second half and go up as much as 22-14 with 10:01 left in the half. Team Wall battles back and ties the game at the 7:32 mark. Greyhounds cannot handle he 5’10 4th grader who gets rebounds and puts them back for 2. Score goes back and forth late in the 2nd half and the game end ends tied at 29. Overtime starts with a quick bucket by Team Wall. Greyhounds come back and make some clutch free throws finishing off Team Wall 35-31. Go Hounds!

Championship will be against Carolina Elite at about 3:30. Let’s get it Greyhounds! Elite jump out on the Greyhounds with a lot of Greyhound turnovers. Elite go in at half with a 16-4 lead. Turnovers and missed baskets continue to plague the Lady Hounds but good free throws kept them in the game. Greyhounds play hard but go down to the Elite 29-18. Greyhounds take second and never stopped playing hard. Go Big Blue!

Stat of the tournament:

We went 11-27 from the line, only made 3 field goals the entire game and had countless turnovers but we still had our chances to be champs.
