D-1 Greyhounds 2024 won the Huntington GBA

Game one of Huntington GBA tournament began at 11am Saturday morning. Greyhounds came out playing in their typical defensive fashion to a much bigger WV Thunder team. Size does not seem to stop this tough greyhound team. The two teams battled back and forth with different lead changes with the Thunder taking the 13-11 lead at half. Second half looked very much the same with different lead changes but the Thunder seemed to keep the lead late in the 2nd half. Greyhounds go down for the first time this year with a 27-23 final. Game 2 verses Pony Express at 1:00pm.

Greyhounds begin game 2 at 1:15 against a pretty quick and athletic Pony Express team. Halfway through the first half Greyhounds are up but only 4-2. The two teams battle with some great defense on both ends and the Greyhounds turning the ball over quite a bit. Greyhounds lead at halftime 11-5. The 2nd half was the same battling back and forth with the Express cutting their deficit to 2 with 5:52 remaining. After that point the Greyhounds control the rest of the game coming out with 22-15 victory over a very competitive Pony Express. 

Game 1 of bracket play began at 11am. The Greyhounds take on the quick and athletic Pony Express. The express keeps the game close for the first part of the half with a 6-4 score at the 5:28 mark. Greyhounds come alive, shots start falling and the Greyhounds have a 22-9 lead at halftime. Second half starts and Express continue to play hard, causing many Greyhound turnovers, but Greyhound man to man defense was too much! Lady hounds take the semifinal game with a final score of 32-18. Championship game at 2:15 against a very big and tough WV Thunder team.

Championship game tips off at 2:15 against a very big and tough WV Thunder team that beat us yesterday. Greyhounds came out a little rusty with quite a few turnovers on passes up top. Greyhounds got hot towards the end of the half going in with a 19-11 lead. Second half goes quite differently for the lady hounds. Thunder shots start to fall as they score 8 unanswered points tying the game at 19 with 9:26 left in the game. Greyhounds could not get their shots to fall as easily as they did in the first half. There were many lead changes and a very physical game on both ends. With 2:18 left in the game the score is tied at 25. That remains the score until 1.8 seconds left in the game when Turner gets fouled for the Greyhounds. Turner hits the first of the 2 free throws and when she misses the second one, Jackson gets the rebound ending the game with a 26-25 victory! Greyhounds take the GBA crown. Way to go Greyhounds!
