The Greyhounds Season begins

13 Mar 2016 by Bryan Courts

Yes ladies and gentlemen, the moment has finally arrived. The moment after All Stars, Buddy League, and elementary school league. The Greyhounds family is finally back together and ready for a new adventure.

The 2024 team is excited and ready to begin the pool play portion of the first weekend tournament. First, 2 games of pool play today and on to bracket play tomorrow.

Game 1 tipped off with WV Dream. It started out a little rocky dusting off those first game jitters. Missed some easy layups and couldn’t get those jump shots to fall. Dream took a 4-0 lead on the Greyhounds. Coach Bryan Courts called for a full court press and the Greyhounds didn’t let up going for the ball, causing turnover after turnover, with the Greyhounds scoring 16 unanswered points.

Greyhounds continued to remain poised and disciplined throughout the game and looked like a team that had been practicing together for months, not just 1 week. All players had the opportunity to get in and take part in the victory. Greyhounds take the win over the Dream 30-16.

Game 2 started at about 3:45 with St. Albans. Greyhounds started this game off a little quicker by scoring 6 straight points. The aggressive defense continued with the full court press and St. Albans struggled with it as well.

The Greyhounds shots were not falling quite as easily as in game 1 but the aggressive defense and perseverance on offense kept the Greyhounds with the lead throughout the entire game.

There were moments that St. Albans looked as if were getting back in the game with there very consistent foul shooting, rebounding, and size advantage. The Greyhounds aggression and quickness were just too much for them. After a hard fought game, Greyhounds take the victory 24-14.

Off to bracket play tomorrow in which the Greyhounds will be hoping to play with the same amount of teamwork and aggressive defense to bring home more wins tomorrow.
